Miu Miu X New Balance Is Back

At her SS2024 show, Miuccia Prada debuted not one, but five key shoe shapes for the new season. First up: thong-toe sandals fashioned from colourful sailing cord and jewels, complete with poppy blister plasters. Then came Mary-Janes, with both low and high heels (some with contrast toe caps), leather and linen buckled shoes (made in collaboration with Church’s), boat shoes and trainers – the latter of which have just launched online.

Part of an ongoing partnership with New Balance, the trainers are an adaptation of the sportswear brand’s 530 running shoe, originally launched in 1992, crafted from new materials – including distressed suede, unprocessed suede and mesh – that give them a fresh, super light quality. While they feature hallmarks of a traditional silhouette – sturdy soles, breathable uppers – they come with the same cord laces as the spring/summer 2024 sandals and the same leather laces as the boat shoes. They are also stamped with a Miu Miu X New Balance logo on the tongue and insole. The colourways feel fresh, too: they’re available in “cinnamon”, white and light grey, ecru, black, which were all recurrent shades throughout the collection.

How does Miuccia suggest you style them? Don’t overthink it: try slouchy, low-waisted trousers with puddling hemlines and let the shoes do the talking. Or carry them as a back-up shoe in an overstuffed handbag, with the zip undone, as the models did on the runway. The more nonchalant, the better.
